About

I'm Andrew Higley and I'm proud to say I've been a dad for over 2,000 days and counting.

I'm also the Multimedia Manager at Luminaut, an architecture and interior design firm with offices in Cincinnati and Indianapolis. My background is in photography; I've got a BFA from DAAP at the University of Cincinnati, where I subsequently worked for a cumulative 17 years, first as a photojournalist and eventually as Associate Director of Marketing and Brand. For my last 5 years, I was the sole staff photographer in central marketing and communications at UC — an R1 university with an enrollment of 52,000+. While I currently specialize in architectural photography, I've photographed a wide range of subjects in a wide variety of places: atop construction cranes, inside helicopters, on the court at NCAA tournaments; from crouched under the guardrail on the track of the Kentucky Derby to shooting in scrubs in the OR.

I'm also a Digital Asset Management (DAM) administrator, having implemented and overseen UC's DAM and now Luminaut's. In part because of this aspect of my work, I decided to pursue an MSIT, which I earned from UC in 2020. Much of my student work focused on interactive e-book design for learning environments, and I'm currently developing an interactive e-book about playing the piano.

My great-grandmother played piano for the silent films, and my grandmother was the local piano teacher in small-town Texas for many years. I've played most of my life, and while I studied and love classical music, I've played in various bands since junior high. I spent my high school and early college years playing local gigs in Delaware with members of the Destroyers. In 2007, when Brendan Benson hired me to help make a record, I took a break from my career as a photographer to pursue a career in music. After working with Brendan, I eventually got hired by Ben Folds. I played keyboards and French horn with Ben from 2008–2015. Thanks to Ben, I've performed on 4 continents and 3 late night tv shows with some of the best musicians and crew members in the world. (Thanks, Ben.)

Now I work at Luminaut, where I take photos and videos of architecture and interior design projects, manage a DAM, and help with general IT stuff. Please check out my work and get in touch if you'd like to chat.
